In 2009 I was taking a shower and I had a vision. This was interesting for me as I am not a person who has many visions. But it was indeed a vision. Not a fancy vision, not a colorful vision but it was a vision that I had to listen to. My vision appeared like simple words on a paper. I was given three basic instructions.
From this vision THE YES TEST was born.
Knowing that I needed to say YES to my vision, my first step was buying a mini composition book from Staples. I used this mini book as my YES TEST journal and for the next 60 days I started to WRITE YES, just as my vision instructed. Each night before I would go to sleep I would write the word YES as many times as I could fit on one page. Sounds neurotic I know and if you were to look in my journal you would immediately think of Jack Nicholson from The Shinning. But I will tell you that this exercise of WRITE YES literally has rewritten the way I think. As positive as I thought I was, I realized how much I thought in no and what a conscious discipline it is to think in YES.
Not long after starting the YES TEST my husband and I started trying to get pregnant. I realized while writing YES I was actually for the first time in my life giving my body permission to say YES to getting pregnant. For decades I had been yelling “NO” at the idea of getting pregnant and with every YES I wrote I was giving myself permission to physically, spiritually and emotionally accept becoming pregnant. This exercise helped me to realize that I was thinking in NO about so many things in my life and that I had the power to rewrite the script. Through this exercise of WRITE YES I created new synapsis and I could literally feel that I was changing the way my brain worked. I am not sure how much of a role the YES TEST played in me getting pregnant but I know that it played a part and by the end of my YES TEST Jared and I were pregnant with our first baby.
The second instruction WALK YES is something that I still do to this day, 4 years after my vision. When I walk I mentally chant the word yes as each foot hits the ground. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES. Instead of getting caught up in my head, thinking unhealthy thoughts or replaying something that doesn’t feel good I literally chant the negative thoughts right out of my head with this one powerful word. YES YES YES YES. When we are alone in our own minds it is so easy to go to unhealthy, unproductive and negative places. But it is impossible to be negative when you are thinking YES. I love that WALK YES is now automatic. It is a powerful tool for focusing the mind. I encourage you to try this simple exercise, WALK YES.
The final instruction was SAY YES. NOW HEAR THIS!!! There are a lot of people who “say yes” to too much. The SAY YES that I am talking about is not about saying yes to doing things. I am saying SAY YES to you. SAY YES to your own personal happiness. SAY YES to your own personal joy. SAY YES to your own personal journey. SAY YES to going confidently in the direction of your dreams and SAY YES to living the life you’ve imagined. So many of us are so busy saying yes to everyone around us we are not saying yes to the person who needs to hear it the most!! SAY YES to you! SAY YES to your wants, your desires and your dreams. Practice SAYING YES to you. Literally, look in the mirror in the morning, look yourself in the eyes and SAY YES!
YES has become such a powerful trigger word in our home. I literally have a gigantic YES hanging in front of my desk, that my husband bought me for my Birthday. It is a reminder that I want to LIVE in the YES and that choosing to SAY YES is my responsibility.
