I declare 2013 to be the year that I take care of me. I have just finished a hot and relaxing sea salt bath and am now sitting back to write this post, snuggled up on my couch with a fire. See, I have come to realize lately that I have spent most of my life taking care of others and putting their needs before mine, to the point of actually neglecting myself. I am always to busy to do things like take a bath, read a book just for fun, go for a hike, or sleep in. Not only am I to busy, I also usually find that I don’t even have the motivation for these activities. Almost as if taking care of myself is an annoyance or another chore. Sounds crazy right?
So I am now making a statement to myself that I am important and deserve to be cared for and loved. This is not something negative, this is not something that I should feel guilty about or ashamed of and I do not have to find ways to earn this in some imagined score book. This is a necessity, and probably one of the most beautiful gifts we can give ourselves, to love and care for our own unique being in ways that bring us back to who we are. In a way that allows us to shower our own individual with affection and care, reminding us that it is most important that we love ourselves first and foremost. Remember, it is only then that others can truly love us as well.
I invite you to join me in making your own declaration to take care of you in 2013. Let’s all support one another in caring for ourselves and reminding one another of the importance of self love. I encourage you all to post comments below and share your ideas and activities that allow you to nurture and care for you. Together let’s learn to put our own selves first, take care of ourselves, and fall in love with ourselves over and over again.
