Hi, my name is Cassidy Rainforest Gard. My hometown is Gainesville, Florida. It’s especially close to my heart because Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are also from the same small town. I always wanted to be somewhere that fueled the arts because my Mom raised me in such a free spirited, creative upbringing. You probably picked up on my hippy roots with a middle name like Rainforest.
I moved to NYC at 17. I spent a year working as a stand in on Gossip Girl trying to figure out how to make a life for myself in Manhattan. Then, I finally gave in to my Mom’s pleas and agreed to start college. I matriculated at Hunter College in 2008. It was the single most important thing I ever did in my life, but at the time I almost dropped out daily. I couldn’t stand that I was getting marked down for skipping class when I booked jobs that I was studying to do in the first place. It was a constant balance between working and attending class. I am grateful to have found my passion early on in broadcast journalism.
New York City had a whole life of opportunity that was accessible without finishing college first. My professors didn’t feel the same way. I was impatient to wait a whole four years to start working in the entertainment industry. However, it was important for me to finish what I started. I compromised by doubling my course load and finishing in two and a half years instead of four. I graduated with a BA in Media Studies and Women Gender Studies at 20.
I moved to LA at 21 to become a TV Host. I now interview actors at press junkets and movie premieres to promote their new films. By night, I write, vlog, and invoke conversation that fuels my love for life. I was an online contributor for Backstage. If you’re interested in learning more about my previous work, I wrote about it here.
I recently started studying “A Course in Miracles.” I love meeting new people and cherishing the ones closest in my life. I’m on a journey of spiritual discovery and writing has become a powerful way for me to connect and share my journey.
