My next stop on my Miraval trip was not exactly a challenge, although at moments it was challenging to get through. I received eighty minutes of Reiki, a type of hands on energetic healing. For those of you that have done any energy work throughout your life, you know that at certain times the work can be extremely intense. It can bring many issues to surface as the intention of clearing is realized. This session of Reiki was a very intense one for me and one in which I have carried away a very valuable lesson.

As I went through this Reiki session, I found that I was experiencing many waves of intense energy flow through my body and come into my line of awareness. Some of these were more intense than others, though one in particular made my body shake and the therapist withdraw his hands quickly. It seemed that the area around my heart chakra was sensitive and powerful and in a split moment, I felt overwhelmed and anxious. My first reaction was to want to jump off the table, as I felt like I might not be able to handle anymore. Instinctually, I slowed and deepened my breathing and suddenly it felt as though I was riding a wave of energy. All of the emotions and sensory stimulation that I was experiencing was like a giant wave that I could ride with grace, simply through focusing my breath.

And so here you have it, my huge lesson that I have walked away from this Reiki session with; the breath is our life force and we have the ability to tune into it’s power, using it as a gift to guide us through anything that comes our way. Whether we are dealing with physical or emotional pain, feeling tired or stressed out, our minds won’t stop spinning, we are afraid, or we simply feel out of control, our breath is our way through all of it. It is all within us, all right there for us to use and rely on at each and every moment. We don’t need to look outside of ourselves for assistance, advice, or guidance and we truly can get through anything.

I encourage you all to sit with your breath and really focus in on how it sounds, the way it feels, the duration of it, and the intensity. Allow it to nourish your body and soul. Allow it to show you what a powerful gift it is. Get comfortable with it and learn to rely on it, as it is there for you always. Inhale…Exhale….And Be.
